The unit is designed to simulate modern steam turbine power plant. Main components consist of a feed water system, a small industrial boiler, steam turbine, alternator and inverter with lamp load, condenser with condensate tank and pump, and cooling tower. Accessories include fuel tank, fuel flow meter, feed water meter, and stack.

The boiler uses diesel fuel to generate saturated steam at a set pressure to run the steam turbine. Exhaust from the turbine is saturated vapor at atmospheric pressure. The vapor is condensed in a condenser and condensate is returned to the feed tank for reuse. Public water is treated and stored in the feed tank. A pump draws water from the feed tank to the boiler.

The saturated steam from the boiler may be superheated by a super heater (optional). In this case the turbine is also modified to superheated steam run.

An alternator is connected to the turbine through a synchronous belt-gear system. An inverter converts alternator DC output to AC for lamp load.

Safety features include those for boiler, turbine over speed, guard and safety switch.

Instruments are provided for measurement of pressures, temperatures, speed, voltage and current. A color touch screen monitor are provided for data display, simple data analysis and control (optional).

Condenser (TH 101-013)  
  • Description:
The unit allows a study of heat transfer in a heat exchanger as well as recover condensate for reuse. The unit consists of a counter flow steam tube heat exchanger and instruments for measurement of temperatures, cooling water flow rate.

Cooling Tower (TH 135-014)  
  • Description:
 This is an educational unit for recovering of condenser cooling water as well as studying of cooling tower efficiency. A cooling tower is recommended to recycle cooling water in the case TH101-013 condenser is used. The unit consists of a cooling tower unit, a storage tank, a circulating pump and temperature gauges.

Electric Super Heater



The unit provides superheated steam for other use such as for a stream turbine. Saturated steam from the boiler is further heated in the electric super heater. Instruments are provided for Measurement of temperature and pressure. The test is to be carried out at low steam rate and compare thermal efficiency for saturated and superheated steam.
