This equipment allows the moment caused by a fluid thrust on a wholly or partially filled plane surface to be measured directly. This surface can be tilted.
A clear acrylic hollow quadrant is hinged with ball bearings onto a fixed arm which coincides with the quadrant center. A lever arm is also hinged on the same axis. The quadrant can be tilted by changing the lock pin position. At the other end of the lever arm is an adjustable counter weight.
A depth scale for water and angular scale for quadrant tilting are indicated on the quadrant. When water is admitted into the quadrant the lever arm will tilt. Sliding weights with hanger are then applied to the arm to balance the quadrant with water. The weight can be moved linearly on a scale such that the exact turning moment can be determined.
The apparatus rests on adjustable footings and a bull’s eye level is provided.
Instruction manual is also included.
