The apparatus is used for studying a cantilever deflection and determining shear center when the plane of loading does not co-inside with the axis of symmetry of the cross section. It is to be used with ST305 Universal Base Frame or ST300 Universal Structural Frame (separately supplied) for attachment of the accessories.

The cantilever under test is mounted horizontally on a support column at one end. The mounted end can be rotated to indicate its position relative to a fixed angular scale. Load is applied through a weight hanger and weights at the free end. A circular disc is attached to the free end and vertical and horizontal displacements may be measured by two dial indicators. The pin where weight hanger is hung can be moved laterally on the circular disc across and outside the section of the cantilever to determine shear center.

Instruction manual is also included.

  • Vertical and horizontal displacements vs angular positions for an applied load.

  • Relationship between the vertical and horizontal deflections and the principal

  • Determination of area moment of inertia around neutral axis.

  • Cantilever section made from extruded aluminum 500 mm long.

The equipment is used for studying the plane of traverse loading without twisting for selected standard sections. It is to be used with ST300 Universal Structural Frame (separately supplied) for attachment of the accessories.

Interchangeable beam specimens are made from steel sheet or approximate equal with welded-on end plates and a central loading plate which has a provision at the bottom for loading at different eccentricities from the beam axis. The end plates are attached to two flanged supports. A load is hung at the bottom of the central loading plate and two dial indicators are used to measure deflections of both ends of the plate.  The plane of zero twist is the plane of shear center.

Instruction manual is also included.

  • Effect of shear force by different beam sections

  • Variation of shear force for various loading positions
