This is a self-contained water circulating unit for studying the friction losses in pipes, pipe fittings, and valves; and to determine coefficients of discharge for primary flow measuring devices at various flow rates.

The unit consists of a pump, a storage tank and a water proof panel on which all friction loss components and the flow measuring devices are arranged.

Friction loss is measured by a pressure drop and coefficient of discharge is determined from a pressure drop and a flow rate. Flow rate is obtained from a water meter and a stop watch. The pressure drop is measured by differential pressure using manometer and differential pressure gauge. Pressure tapping is by small ball valves with quick connection. All pressure taps are connected by flexible hoses to a set of specially arranged manifolds such that differential pressure across any component can be measured simply by opening valves without removing the hoses. The unit is on a steel frame on wheels.

Instruction manual is also included.

The apparatus is designed to study the drag of a particle in a liquid under various Reynold numbers.

This is done by dropping a particle into a vertical liquid column and timing its fall between two points. Particle cross section is no more than 1% of the tube cross section. Various sizes and density of particles are supplied including streamlined shaped objects.

A guide at the top of the tube is provided to minimize disturbance to the liquid. Valves at the bottom of the tubes provide a mean for particle removal with minimum loss of the liquid. The rear panel is translucent with back lighting. This allows clear observation of the particle fall.

Instruction manual is also included.

The system is for studying the acceleration of a gear system under different gear ratios.

The system consists four parallel shafts with fix and sliding gear and supported by ball bearings on a base frame. Shafts 1, 2 and 3 have two fixed gears. Shafts 2, 3 and 4 have two sliding gears.  Each pair of adjacent shafts has two transmission ratios, providing 8 different gear ratios between the first and the last shaft. Inertia mass with torque drum is attached to each shaft. A cord wound around a drum and the weight hanger provides a means of applying a torque. The gear system is attached to a wall supported on two legs for weight hanger travel. By timing the fall of the weight hanger, the acceleration of the system can be calculated. A sprocket and lock pin, and a winding handle are provided for raising the weights. All gears are enclosed in a casing with a transparent cover for safety.
